Patient presented with concerns about pigmentation on his cheeks, following the use of an over-the-counter skin brightening medication.
23
Observations
1) Bilateral post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) on the malar areas of the cheeks.
2) Active acne lesions present alongside the PIH.
Diagnosis
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and acne vulgaris.
Treatment Plan
Q-switched laser treatment:
The patient received one session of Q-switched laser treatment targeting the pigmented areas. This laser specifically targets melanin (the pigment responsible for skin color) to break down and fade the hyperpigmentation.
Skincare routine: The patient was also prescribed a customized skincare routine focused on depigmentation.
Results
1) After just one session of Q-switched laser treatment, the patient experienced a significant improvement in his PIH.
2) The treatment also helped reduce the active acne lesions.
3) It is important to note that the patient is still undergoing treatment and further sessions needed to achieve optimal results.
Discussion
This case study demonstrates the effectiveness of Q-switched laser therapy in treating post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused by over-the-counter skin lightening products. Additionally, combining laser treatment with a targeted skincare routine can enhance results and promote overall skin health.
